From Gawky Girl to Rooism

Roo, the Tomboy

Whatever. I’m still fabulous! – Unknown.

Like too many young girls, I didn’t feel beautiful growing up.  As a teenager, I was a tomboy.  I was the tallest girl in the class. I was naturally ‘too’ thin, especially in India where, as a culture, we love voluptuous women.

I ran barefooted. I did state level high jump. I played volleyball and basketball. I was more comfortable on a track than at a dance. Actually, I didn’t go to dances. I loved the freedom of running.

If I wore shoes, they were sneakers.  Never heels.

I wore jeans.  Never dresses.

I didn’t date.  I wrote poetry.  And traveled extensively.

But somewhere along the way, I started to find myself.  I realized that I am beautiful in my own way. My husband believed unequivocally that I was beautiful long before I did. But now I get it. I am beautiful in the same way every woman is beautiful.  I deeply believe that.

I figured out that I love dresses.  And I love heels.  (Maybe too much).

Part of why I do this blog is that I’m excited to help women find their own beauty.  I want my girlfriends to find their passions the way I love mine – Friends, Fashion, Food & Fabulous.

Thank you for supporting Rooism. xo

Dress: Zara, this one sold out fast. But I have some ah-mazing options for you!! This Self-Portrait dress is square lace is TO DIE FOR. It’s boxy and masculine, but with all that girly lace. I love the dichotomy it has going for it. The long sleeve Dress the Population Grace shift dress has everything – the glittering sequence, the romantic lace, and all the oomph! This Self-Portrait mini dress will make heads spin; 100% of the time. It’s so unusual, and I beyond love it.

Shoes: I looooove my Manolo Blahnik Hangisi pumps (4″ heel)- they’re drop dead gorgeous! The same Hangisi in a lower heel (3″ heel). Here’s a wallet friendly option Badgley Mischka ‘Nichole’. Badgley Mischka’s ‘Rouge II’ is jaw droopingly beautiful. I have my eyes on the Rouge II.

Clutch: J.Crew Cork Clutch is quite slim, but I find it’s sufficient for basics: a couple of cards, a phone, a lipstick, a pocket perfume. Here are some additional stunning options. This geometric pattern clutch is a steal for $10 from TJ Maxx. The Agent Gemma by Diane von Furstenberg is extreeeeeeemely cute. Miss Albright Clutch is quite alright (sorry couldn’t help it! :-P). Jokes apart, you can by this beauty at Anthropologie for under $50!! And did I say it’s made from CORK. It’s a conversational piece for sure. (pic.s below)
